Questions about the firm, answered straight
The things founders, principals and family offices most often want to know before they get in touch. If your question is not here, just ask us directly.
Somerville Partners is a London-based private holdings and advisory firm. It deploys its own principal capital into private businesses and advises founders, family offices and institutions — primarily across the United Kingdom and the Gulf. Its working motto is "patient capital, considered counsel."
It is deliberately both. Somerville Partners runs two disciplines under one roof: principal investment from its own balance sheet, and an advisory and capital-raising practice. The two inform each other — the counsel the firm gives has to clear the same bar as the decisions it makes with its own capital, because the same people are making both.
The firm is headquartered in London, United Kingdom, and is active across the UK. Through its operating companies — including European Technical, its UAE technical-services business — it also operates across the Gulf and the wider MENA region. Where a relationship calls for it, the firm travels to wherever its principals are based.
Principal investment means committing the firm's own capital — not clients' money — into private businesses. Somerville Partners takes minority or majority stakes, holds them for the long term with no fixed fund clock forcing a sale, and backs the founders and operators running the business rather than pushing them toward a quick exit.
Yes. The firm participates directly in venture and growth rounds and helps arrange the capital behind them — building the materials and data room, introducing co-investors and family offices, and structuring and negotiating terms. Its sector focus includes business and professional services, technical and field services, property, specialist manufacturing and select technology-enabled operators.
Strategic and financial counsel for founders, boards and family offices: strategic reviews (where to invest, where to pull back), M&A on the buy-side and sell-side, capital-raising mandates, board-level governance and reporting, and independent second opinions on major decisions. The firm takes on a deliberately small number of engagements so each receives genuine partner attention.
Sectors where the firm has operating experience and repeated exposure: technical and field services, property and real estate, business and professional services, specialist manufacturing, facilities and operations, healthcare and care services, consumer and hospitality, and industrial and B2B businesses. It is generalist by temperament but concentrates where it can be genuinely useful.
European Technical is Somerville Partners' UAE-based technical-services operating company — a licensed Dubai home-maintenance and technical-services business covering air-conditioning, plumbing, electrical, painting, handyman and general maintenance. It is the clearest, live example of how the firm builds and holds a business for the long term, and it anchors the firm's presence in the Gulf.
Through discreet, long-horizon counsel: sourcing and diligence of direct private deals, asset-allocation and portfolio-construction advice, family governance and decision-making frameworks, succession planning, and co-investment alongside the firm's own principal positions. Where appropriate, the firm co-invests its own capital so its interests sit on the same side of the table as the family's.
Start with a direct conversation — by phone, WhatsApp or email. If the opportunity fits, the firm can invest itself and help arrange the wider round: bringing co-investors, structuring the deal and negotiating terms. There is no process to "apply" to; the first conversation is informal, confidential and without obligation.
